Dam Failure Consequence Classification

Dam Failure Consequence Classification

Hydrological Assessment

Location: Sea-to-Sky Region, British Columbia, Canada

Boreal was retained to complete four dam failure consequence classifications, as required by the British Columbia Dam Safety Regulation. This work was completed for four of Innergex’s operational run‑of‑river hydroelectric project in southwestern British Columbia: Ashlu Creek, Fitzsimmons Creek, Rutherford Creek and Miller Creek.

Boreal’s scope of work for each project included hydraulic modelling of theoretical dam breaches for both “sunny-day” and “flood-induced” conditions, estimation of potential extent of inundation, and evaluation of potential consequences due to inundation (social, cultural, environmental and economic). This work was completed in compliance with the Regulation and Canadian Dam Association’s Dam Safety Guidelines.
