Hydroelectric Project Condition Assessment

Boreal was retained to complete a due diligence condition assessment for ATCO’s Astoria River Hydroelectric Project in Jasper National Park, Alberta. This work identified and forecasted capex requirements intended to ensure continued operation of the facility for another 50 years. Areas of focus for Boreal included the dam and intake, penstock, powerhouse, tailrace and substation civil works.

Boreal’s scope included a detailed review of plant performance, maintenance and inspection records, and a visual inspection of key infrastructure and equipment. Deficiencies, actual or potential, were identified and a capital expenditure budget forecast was prepared. This work identified key areas requiring improvement and provided a realistic blueprint for preparing future capital budgets.
