Derek is our President and Senior Engineer. He has built his career on major infrastructure projects in the renewable energy, mining and transportation sectors and has experience with projects across Canada, the United States and Mexico. Derek holds an undergraduate degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering from the University of Alberta and a graduate degree in Hydrotechnical Engineering from the University of British Columbia.
Derek’s areas of expertise include hydrological assessment, hydraulic design and renewable energy project development and engineering. He has developed these skills on a broad range of projects,
including renewable power generation (hydroelectric, wind and solar), pumping stations, floodways, drainage, tunnels/penstocks, bridges, outfalls, wastewater, and pipelines. Derek is skilled in all phases of project development, from concept through construction and operation, and he has written on these topics for several industry publications. Derek’s other specialties include water quality monitoring program design and execution, shallow groundwater characterization and modelling, contaminated site assessment and remediation, environmental risk assessment, waste management, acid rock drainage and metals leaching management, environmental impact assessment and industrial property tax assessment.
